First post...

Well, I never imagined I'd be posting my first LiveJournal post at 4am British time from an Arizona airport... But a number of factors have come together:

1: For the past several days of NaNoWriMo, I've been thinking I'd quite like to have somewhere to record things about the writing process. For a while I was using this thread, but I felt bad about taking that over.

2: I'm here in this airport because I'm en route to a conference called SC07, and I've been told that at least one friend would like to read an account of the conference. I wouldn't want to blog about work stuff, but supercomputing is interesting independent of my job, and I think the NaNoWriMo aspect will hopefully offset the boring bits.

3: I'm here in this airport (waiting 3 hours for a connecting flight), my brain is too frazzled to be actually writing novel at the moment, and they've got free WiFi access. Maybe starting a LiveJournal is one of those ideas that only seems like a good idea at 4 in the morning.

4: I rather wanted to be able to share with people the following quote, which I found myself writing earlier, and has been making me giggle since then:
Doing something that could be stopped by having a comet dropped from outer space on it. Well, that's most things...
(Yes, it was in the context of plans for my NaNo novel, but I don't even know if it's actually going into the novel, and if it is, I don't think that comment is spoily on its own.)

Yay, NaNo blog :)

Urgh at the tiring flight schedule. I'm glad you've since had Sunday to relax.

I've been trying to work out whether the letters in the top right corner of your LJ homepage spell anything. I think there are too few vowels for them to do so, BICBW. They're very pretty, anyway.
